Important Announcement

Please read the important announcement page for information on our present situation.

Our rescue efforts are currently on hold not only due to drought, but predominantly due to lack of available land for the horses to graze on. We hope to be back up and running in the near future. Full details in the announcement link on the Left hand side of the screen.

Thankyou to everyone for your ongoing support.

All Horses Deserve a 2nd Chance

‘Horses with Hope’ is a small privately funded rescue program that is run in the south east of Melbourne. On an average we have approximately 10-15 rescue horses at a time. Not only is this a costly and time consuming activity, but it is also heart wrenching to see.

We have been running for 5 years now and have rapidly grown in the last 2 years, which has involved the acquisition of more land in order to house the horses, aswell as more hands on deck to assist with the growing workload. We also now have a website specifically designed to help us educate the public on the issues related to horse care aswell as helping us re-home our rescue patients once they are re-habilitated.

As funds are generally low and we need all the help we can get, we rely on the generosity of others and guarantee you that every cent donated, goes toward taking on more horses, covering feed bills, assisting us in paying veterinary costs and general care of the horses including, but not limited to farrier work, worming, chiropractic work (when necessary) etc…

The general outlook here is that NO horse should be sent to the knackery unless they are very ill or seriously injured and in pain.

This small horse rescue program is run by myself and a good friend of mine. We fund the program with our own money, and spend every spare second working with our horses to ensure that they are healthy and safe enough to be re-housed with new loving owners.

99% of the horses are perfect and suit beginners and intermediate riders and the only things that they need are a good brush, and a good feed. The other 1% are the ones that have been mistreated, and they take a little more time to bring up to scratch.

All horses are handled in all areas of work to ensure that they are safe, honest, and reliable. They are put through lots of ground work, then a lunging program, a general riding test which is basically riding in a paddock, and ensuring that they will happily walk, trot and canter without misbehaving. Once this area is established, we then move onto road work - this is the most important as they need to be safe and sensible when being ridden out, we take them out down the sides of busy main roads and the sides of freeways to ensure that they are 100% safe when you take them out and about. We also take them up to Lysterfield Equestrian Trails and ride them around the hills and track for a bit of fun.  Once the horses pass all these tests with ease, they are re-housed.... then its time to start again with another well deserving patron.........

We come across all sorts of horses from time to time, and our main aim is to find them a good home instead of seeing them get killed.

We have a bad habit of getting a horse and getting attached and we end up with too many horsies and do not have the land to keep them all!!

We welcome Vet Checks on any of the horses that we have here for sale. All horses are described to the best of our ability, and knowledge.

If you have any questions on any of the horses that we have here, please do not hesitate to email or call me, I am more than happy to answer them.

Thanks & Kind Regards

Bree Savage
