Equine Bowen Therapy
Bowen Therapy is a manual body technique used to treat and/or prevent injury or disorder and/or to maintain the optimum level of health in the recipient. A treatment consists of the application of sequences of cross-fibre movements on the soft tissue of the body, in particular muscles, tendons, ligaments, and connective tissue (fascia).
These “cross fibre” moves can be applied for both acute and chronic conditions. Bowen not only assists the soft tissue to overcome problems, but also due to its apparent influence on the body’s energy and meridian systems, it has an effect on the body’s organs and their functions.
Bowen Therapy can effectively assist the body to regain its natural range of movement and balance. It acts as a catalyst for the body to activate the natural healing process.
Bowen Therapy assists with:
Relief of acute and chronic musculoskeletal pain
Improved circulation
Improved lymphatic drainage
Elimination of toxins
Improved joint mobility
Improved posture
Uneven gate
Stiffness & cold backed muscles
Deterioration in performance
Sudden change in temperament.
In my experiences I have found horse’s to really enjoy Bowen Therapy. It releases them of stress and I have fantastic results no matter how young or old the horse may be. They give big signs of releasing such as constantly yawning through out the session, falling asleep, muscle spasms throughout their body, shaking of old energy by swishing tail or shifting weight constantly then settling back down again. It is a very rewarding treatment to give.
This is a Bowen treatment on a thoroughbred that is generally a quite active type; he yawned throughout the session and is pictured here asleep after the treatment.
Bach Flower Remedies
Bach Flower Remedies are a simple, natural and effective system of medicine. The remedies help manage our emotions and mental states, working gently to restore, balance and heal our emotional well being. They are simple to use and safe for all the family including animals.
Remedies are best used alongside other forms of treatment as they are complementary rather than alternative medicines. The Bach Flower Remedies have been proving their effectiveness for over 60 years and are used world wide with great success.
Animals have emotions too; they feel fear, anger, jealousy, and depression just like we do. The remedies are able to help our pets when they have negative emotions just as they help us when we are emotionally out of balance. Unfortunately, we are not able to ask our pet why it acts depressed, but we do know if it misses a friend or gets overly excited around new people.
An example of how Bach Flowers help:
Anxiety
Shock or fright
Distress
Feeling fearful
Intolerance towards people or other animals
Isolation issues
Repeating behaviour
Mothers not coping with young
Separated from companion or owner
Relocating homes
Jealous animals or not accepting a new addition to the family
