"SOLD" to the most perfect home!!

Maisie has been sold to a wonderful home that is only 15mins from me so we can stay in touch.

I'm so pleased with the outcome. Maisie's new mum "Deb" is going to be following on with herbal treatment's to hopefully prevent the re-occurence of the infection & is going to have her lameness looked into and hopefully combat this in the future too.

These 2 are a match made in heaven and I just know that our special Maisie will be spoilt rotten!!

Thanks Deb I'm sure you two will be forever happy :)

BELOW: One last happy snap of Maisie having a good scratch on the tree....

The beautiful big chunka nearly knocked the tree down!!  Very funny to watch.

Maisie is being offered for sale... Finally!!!

I am offering Maisie for sale to a loving home only. This girl truly is one in a million and deserves the best home ever.

STAT'S = 15.2hh, approx 10 years old, solid pure clydie, dark dapple bay with blaze & 4 white legs.

I am not selling her as a riding horse but rather as a pet/companion horse. She is very affectionate and will follow you anywere & has the most gentle nature as most Clydie's do. She is easy to catch, trim feet and float. Looooves her food & holds her weight well.

The infection has completely cleared up and there is no signs of discharge at all. The vet cannot guarantee that the problem wont come back, but at present all is fine & we're in the clear. This is something the new owner will need to monitor but at present we dont envisage any problems.

The reason I am not selling her as a riding horse is that the lameness in her front leg is still apparent & I lack the funds to pursue this with the veterinary attention. I can tell you that we have ridden her once at the walk & a small amount of trotting and she was good, but thats the extent of it. When she is in the paddock you cannot see any lameness, she is fine in the walk & its only when she gets up to a trot that you can see it. She is happy girl though and I dont think it bothers her.

If the new owners wish to look into the lameness further, then she may be a rideable horse in the future but I cannot guarantee this.

Maisie will not be sold as a broodmare either as it would not be fair to her after all the pain of the Pyometra (Chronic Uterus Infection).

I am offering Maisie for sale at the price she has cost me to date incl. purchase prie, vet bills etc...

- Asking Price = $1200 a very sad sale.

Please contact Bree on HORSESwithHOPE@yahoo.com.au or 0419118840. Located Dandenong Sth, Victoria.

Looking Good - See todays picture - her summer coat is coming thru & she's a stunning dark chocolate dapple bay!!

14th Aug - "Just a happy snap"

Thought after all the unpleasant updates, it was time for a nice one.

Just a happy note to say Maisie is doing well and will know more in about a week.

Isn't this just the most beautiful moustache ever !! Long curly and thick, gotta love it !!

11th Aug - "The Vet Visit"

I took Maisie to the vet on Tuesday and after the consultation it was determined that Maisie has a severe case of Pyometra. This is basically a very bad infection of the uterus. It is a pussy, painful thing to have and this makes it impossible for a mare to conceive or carry a pregnancy. The vet did an internal examination and discovered that the walls of Maisie's uterus were about 2 inches thick, as opposed to the normal thickness which should be around 2mm thick, so thats a huge infection. They flushed out her uterus with an iodine solution and got half a bucket of puss with the first flush and about half that amount with the second flush. DISGUSTING!!! and SMELLY!!!

Due to the severity of the infection, it warranted an invasive procedure to try to combat the puss and empty out the uterus. An old tried and tested method of doing this is flushing out the uterus with kerosene. Yes, it sounds brutal but it has had very impressive results  with past horses so time will tell if it works for Maisie (she was flushed with it on Wednesday). Basically we now have to wait approx 1-2 weeks to see if the weeping stops and if it does, we'll be all set! If not... then we'll cross that bridge if we come to it....

Thanks to everyone who emails me & calls me to send well wishes to Maisie and if I dont get around to replying straight, away, I will eventually so please be patient, I have had approx 50 emails so far about Maisie so it's hard to keep on top of them all, but please dont stop, it's great to have so much support from all over Ausralia!!!

Poor Maisie, what a horrible thing to have to go through.

She behaved like an angel and was so easy to handle.

What a sweetheart, she's a very special horse thats for sure.

7th Aug - "Time for a ride!!"

Finally... today was the day where we decided Maisie was ready for the first ride...

She stood beautifully whist we saddled her up & adjusted her bridle etc... She wasnt fazed by anything during the grooming/saddling up procedure...

We began the procedure with a gentle lunge to limber her up, she was like an old pro, she went for a nice gentle walk & trot on the lunge. Then we decided to make the move & hop on. Maisie stood nicely & patiently whist she was mounted and then went for a smooth walk and a couple of strides of the trot. We didnt push her too much today as it's nice to bring new horses into work slowly, but so far so good... the worst she did was bob her head a bit. Gotta be happy with that!

Still too early to say what sort of rider she'd suit, but there was no nastyness in sight so it's looking like she's going to be an angel to ride.

Her infection is still persisting so she's going to have another check up by the vet to see if another medicine may help out better than the one she is on currently. During the vet visit she's also going to get her front leg checked as she was stepping short and slightly lame during the lunge & ride... hopefully nothing severe but we will find out soon enough.

3rd August - "Hmmm.. I could open this"

Cheeky Cheeky Cheeky ....

That pretty much sums up our Maisie girl.

She thinks she’s very smart trying to lift up the latch on the gate!!

Her personality is really showing now & she's just a fun horse to be around.

Her infection is almost cleared up, just a few more injections to go - she's a good patient.

"De-Stink" time....

Maisie has been left for so long that she is very smelly, this is due to the infection and she has been weeping around her vulva and this has run down her legs and dried up there. The smell of a urine infection is aweful & last week you could hardly even stand to be within 20metres of her as the smell was so strong, but today (only 1 week later), she is no longer smelly and moving around like there was never anything wrong.

I got the shampoo and hose onto her today and gave her legs, bottom and feet a good scrub up and got off all that dried up muck, and let me tell you - it stunk!! Maisie stood like an agel for the washing and really enjoyed it. She was so relaxed and was helping me clean her up by swinging her bum towards me for a scratch & lifting her tail. It was very nice to see her feeling comfy and relaxed in her new surroundings.

Maisie's MESSY Mane...

It is obvious that Maisie has not had a brush for quite a long time, as you can see by her ugly dreadlocks!!

She stood like an angel lapping up the attention while we worked our magic.... and after an hour, she looked stunning

 FROM THIS:                                                          TO THIS:

27th July - Maisie's Story Begins...

Maisie is a beautiful Clydesdale mare that has recently graced our paddocks.

She is approx 15.2hh and approx 10 years old.

Maisie is a good condition apart from a severe internal infection. This infection is affecting the way Maisie passes urine and causes her a great deal of pain. She can only pass a very small amount, then the pain gets too much for her and she stops and lifts her leg in the air and buckles at the knees in pain. Absolutely awful to see.

She has been put on a course of Penicillin to help combat the infection and is also being fed herbal remedies to help rid her of the pain & help her move a bit more freely.

Her riding ability will NOT be tested until she is past this infection and therefore will NOT be offered for sale until her health can be rehabilitated.

Stay tuned for more updates on this big beautiful girls progress…
