Spike is a Super Pony!! He is about 12.1 hh and is 22 years young!! (branded). Please don’t be put off by his age, he looks and rides like a 12 year old. He is in excellent condition and is the cutest little fella goin’ round!
Spike is a white gelding and would have Welsh breeding; he has a rounded little body and a dishy pretty little head. He has a lovely nature and is very friendly, he is super easy to catch, float, handle and trim feet, saddle up etc…
He has no nasty vices and hasn’t bucked/bolted/bitten/kicked or anything nasty. He’s a bold pony and is not spooky. He happily rides in the bush, on roads, in the arena, or in the paddock, he even pops over little jumps with great action.
Spike has a very trustworthy nature and you could easily leave him alone with young children for them to handle unsupervised. He has been ridden by children and adults and has been doing some lead rein work with a 3 year old girl very successfully.
I would say that the only vice Spike has is that when standing still he gets bored and will give you a bit of a shove. Its 100% not a nasty thing, but can be quite annoying. This is the only issue that I have come across with him. Its not a huge problem but some children may be put off by it if he shoves them when they are holding him. On saying that he has been handled by a raw beginner 7yr old and she handled him.
He’d easily suit anyone from raw beginner to a more experienced rider - he will adapt to suit the riders experience. He is a very easy pony to ride. He has 3 good paces - nice steady walk, balanced smooth trot and flowing canter. His transitions are very good and he pops into the canter without having to be pushed and pushed like some little ponies. Spike has fantastic brakes and stops very easily. He is ridden in a plain snaffle bit and is also ridden from the paddock up to the tack-up area in just a halter whist bareback. He’s very willing and would make an ideal pleasure mount or pony club mount for just about anyone!
